Job Description
The Real Time Trader II works independently to meet hourly system load requirements through a prescribed strategy of optimized dispatch of the Cooperative s generating assets and the skillful negotiation of sales and purchases of wholesale power. The incumbent applies extensive experience and knowledge of the Cooperative's footprint to create strategies which will optimize the Cooperative's position within each region of operation. The incumbent records accurate settlements, and monitors and adjusts short and long term transactions while assisting and advising less experienced traders. The incumbent resolves scheduling issues due to transmission limitations, obtains crucial transmission, and monitors and understands market fundamentals. At times, the incumbent anticipate probable issues to alleviate the impact by taking remedial measures prior to the onset of a problem.
Required Skills
This position required the ability to read, write, comprehend, analyze data and reports, conduct contract related research, implement recommendations, negotiate with others, develop plans, procedures and goals, and present information to others. Job activities are performed in an office environment with a typical trade floor layout that lacks the traditional privacy that a cube or office provides. The ability to cycle on duty shift patterns with minimal performance degradation is also a requirement of this position. Use of keyboard/computer, good finger dexterity and the ability to perform close work are required. Requires frequent sitting, standing and walking; and occasional climbing, kneeling, reaching and lifting up to 25 pounds.
Required Experience
Required: A Bachelor s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Mathematics or Engineering and six years of equivalent trading or physical power trading experience. Shift work, including overnight shifts throughout the month. NERC system operator certification may be required and maintained in good standing while performing this position. Knowledge of business practices and procedures and a technical knowledge in a wide range of business functions; understanding of power generation, transmission systems, control area operations, marketing pools, natural gas markets, pipeline scheduling and management, natural gas storage, and economic principles. Good oral and written communication skills; strong negotiation skills. Ability to effectively make decisions, using initiative and creativity to meet immediate deadlines. Travel by car, cooperative plane, or commercial plane.
Preferred: MCG/OATI or Allegro computer software. A valid driver s license.
