Minimum Qualifications
(Transportation Engineer II): Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and two years of professional-level engineering work experience. Also requires eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. A bachelor's degree with a major in construction management and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam may substitute for the educational requirement.
Under Filling Requirements (Transportation Engineer I): Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and eligibility to write the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Summary of Work
Review all rural plans and transportation alternative program plan sets for details, provisions, standards, and completeness. The kind of work done to complete this activity includes: Review Plans, Specifications, & Estimates (PS&E;) for format, content, and completeness. Check conformance to NDDOT standard specifications for road and bridge construction. Ensure accuracy and compliance with AASHTO, FHWA guidelines, and Local Agency Standards. Inform consulting and county engineers/local jurisdictions of required revisions on rural project plans. Approximately 40 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Prepare final plans for bidding and work with other divisions to prepare the bidders proposal on rural projects. The kind of work done to complete this activity includes: Compile final plans in electronic format, final estimate, final certifications (ROW, Design, RR, and Utility), SP's that may be required, completion date, and any addendums. Review all final documents to ensure necessary changes were completed based on PS&E; comments. Input cost estimate and funding information into PACER. Prepare bidders proposal in PACER. Submit final plans, certifications, SP's, PACER estimate and bidders proposal to Programming Division for final processing. Submit completion date to Construction Division for review and incorporation into the bidders proposal. Approximately 15 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Provide technical support on plan development, assist in reviewing environmental documents, and other Engineering technical documents. The kind of work done to complete this activity includes: Assist in the review and comment on draft environmental documents (DCE's, EAs, and EISs). Review type, size, and location reports for bridges. Review status of all projects with supervisor and staff prior to project status report (PSR) meetings. Attend field reviews, public input meetings, and public hearing meetings as required to provide assistance on any questions regarding funding. Work with in-house administrative and engineering representatives to fulfill development needs on time. Provide technical support to local agencies and consultants on design standards and other engineering standards. Approximately 30 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Assist in the Emergency Relief Program. The kind of work done to complete this activity includes: Conduct preliminary assessment of damage and communicate with customers on program guidelines and requirements. Monitor the status of the Detailed Damage Inspection Reports (DDIR) and work with the local agencies and consultants to complete the DDIR's. Approximately 5 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Create Maps using GIS. The kind of work done to complete this activity includes: Create shape files to create maps showing the locations of federal and state aid projects. Work with the Mapping section to share shape files for special projects. Approximately 10 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
