Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor''s degree in radiological health science, health physics or other natural or physical science and three years of related experience. Individuals should have effective written and oral communication skills, computer skills and good interpersonal skills.Travel within North Dakota and out-of-state to perform duties and attend training is required. Applicants must have a valid driver's license.
If unable to find qualified candidates, the Department will consider under-filling the position as an Environmental Scientist II which requires a bachelor's degree in radiological health science, health physics or other physical or natural science and one year of related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in interpreting rules and applying health physics principals.

Summary of Work
This position is responsible for ensuring the safe and beneficial use of radioactive materials. Responsibilities include:
Review and evaluate license applications and/or amendments for the use of radioactive material.
Prepare and issue radioactive material licenses.
Conduct inspections of facilities that use radioactive material.
Determine compliance with radiation safety regulations.
Draft and interpret regulations and guidance documents.
Respond to emergency incidents involving radioactive materials.
_Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities_ :
Considerable knowledge of nuclear regulations, requirements and procedures.
Substantial understanding of the principles and concepts associated with radiation control.
Ability to interpret regulations and provide guidance and assistance on policies and procedures for achieving and maintaining compliance.
Computer skills including usage of databases and spreadsheets.
Effective oral and written skills.
