Minimum Qualifications
Requires an associate degree in civil technology and a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater or two years of related work experience may substitute for the Associate degree.
Requires a valid North Dakota Class D driver's license in order to travel to project locations and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry several items with a total weight of 50 pounds.

Summary of Work
Construction Inspection Activities: Measure and compute plan and installed quantities. Inspector for a variety of construction activities which may include, but are not limited to; grading, structure, culverts, aggregate base courses, seal coats, concrete and bituminous paving activities, bridge construction activities, seeding and mulching, traffic signal, lighting, and signing activities, guardrail, utilities, and other miscellaneous construction activities. Ensure that construction activities are performed in accordance with DOT standard specifications, special provisions, plans, and standard drawings. Check width, depth and crown on base and surfacing for all paving activities to ensure compliance. Record daily activities in diaries and inspection reports. Identify items that are not in compliance and make corrections or notify team leader or project engineer for their action. Approximately 25 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Construction Survey Activities: Member of a Survey Team on assigned projects. Establish survey control (horizontal and vertical) and be able to make adjustments and establish new alignments as necessary. Check and verify horizontal and vertical alignment. Perform miscellaneous survey activities such as; blue topping, slope staking, cross sectioning, structure staking, and grade staking. Keep survey notes and records. Compute survey data. Load survey data into applicable equipment. Operate GPS and Robotic survey equipment and data collectors. Approximately 25 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Construction Materials Activities: Compliance and acceptance testing on various materials to include, but not limited to; aggregate, bituminous, concrete, dirt, oil, steel, paint, and sign panels. Capable of sampling and testing a variety of materials in a single day on larger, more complex projects or multiple projects. Record and report all findings/results. Interpret the regulations, DOT specifications, contract, and district requirements to ensure compliance. Approximately 25 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Field Office Work Activities: Be familiar with and able to enter data into the construction automated record system (CARS). Prepare material spreadsheets and testing files. File and record survey notes for computer entry. Approximately 10 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
Winter/Non-Construction Season Activities: Work in a variety of DOT Divisions/Districts such as; Design to assist in project development, Planning to assist in project planning and review, Materials and Research to assist in materials testing and/or research, Maintenance & Engineering Services, and Local Government. Work on special tasks or work teams to complete and or research new ideas/concepts and come up with recommendations. Attend task specific training opportunities to improve overall knowledge of engineering practices and principles. Be assigned a special project or task to complete for other divisions/districts. Act as the primary/project lead for the tasks. Establish and Maintain positive and effective working relationships with assigned project staff. Approximately 15 percent of the time will be spent on this duty.
